The Chinese fisherman had so much success that intensity came in the form of racial prejudice. And this is what happened to the Chinese of moderate California back in the late 1800s. The fishing village was burned to the ground and was not allowed to be rebuilt. Although some the Chinese remain in the area and work in the canneries as cutters and remained until the late 1930s. This is testament to the Asian influence that can be seen all in Monterey California.
